Congressional candidate Reed kicks off campaign
ANOKA - Congressional Candidate Dr. Maureen Reed officially kicked off her campaign Oct. 17, opening her campaign headquarters in Anoka with a crowd of Democrats, Independents and Republicans.
Reed first announced her intention to run in the 6th Congressional District, currently represented by Michele Bachmann, on May 12.
"I'm running for Congress because as a doctor, I've seen what happens when people delay care because they can't afford it, as a former regent, I've seen the negative effects of raising tuition costs at the University of Minnesota, and as a head of a non-profit, I've seen the problems small businesses face when they have to deal with the exorbitant increases in their health care premiums. In America, we can do better," Reed said.
"The support I have received from across the district and the state is truly humbling and gratifying. When I'm in Washington, I will bring common sense solutions to Congress and will work across party lines to deliver results for the district, state and nation," she said.
Reed is running for Congress in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District - which includes Stillwater - against Bachmann, a Republican.
Reed reported more than $311,000 dollars on hand at the end of the third quarter. Reed is a self-proclaimed, "made in Minnesota moderate," who says she will bring together Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to get things done.
State Sen. Tarryl Clark is also vying for the DFL endorsement. Both are looking to unseat sitting U.S. Rep. Bachmann, who lives in Stillwater.
