Maureen Reed makes her case for CD 6
Dr. Maureen Reed, candidate for U.S. Congress in the Sixth District, made it official today at the Secretary of State's office after a press conference. Reed's campaign focused on her status as an outsider in politics, wrapped up in the politics as usual neither of St. Paul nor Washington. Specifically, she pointed to Sen. Tarryl Clark's (DFL-St. Cloud) votes for tax increases as completely toxic to CD6 voters, and emphasized that the district was a lot more than just St. Cloud-the only place Clark has won an election. Reed called herself a centrist, much more in line with the district and much more prepared to make reform in Washington. She outlined a few areas in need of immediate change, including ending automatic pay raises for Congress and eliminating the "revolving door" between Congress and lobbyists.
Reed noted that she felt positive about current fundraising, but she anticipated a much increased effort after the primary, when out-of-state sources would get behind the DFL candidate.
The Clark campaign shot back immediately with a statement characterizing Reed's effort as "recycled negative attacks."
